The final concert of the Rio Piano Trio’s current tour will be in Peterborough at St John the Baptist church where I have played several times before.
The concert will showcase music by some of South America’s most celebrated musical figures: Heitor Villa-Lobos, regarded as the most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian music, is featured alongside the legendary Argentinian composer Astor Piazzola who redefined Tango for the modern age, infusing it with new energy and character. We open the concert with the music of César Guerra-Peixe who drew inspiration from the vibrant folk traditions of Brazil's north-east region.
